Bedlam Bards
2000 Schedule
Excalibur Fantasy
Faire
-
March 11,12, 18, 19, 25, 26, April 1, 2. Located at the
Rocky Hill Ranch, Smithville, TX.
Phone 512-303-3801 Practically in our backyard,
this is one of our favorite faires to do. It's more fun per square
inch than any other faire around. Cedric will also be playing for
Zerehade's Middle Eastern Dance Revue. (Be sure to try Odell's spanikopita
and baklava!) Ending its second season,
this faire has a bright future. Though
still small, it has a lively cast and enthusiastic merchants.
The Bedlamites had a great time organizing the pubsing, in which
every piece was a jam between all of the musical acts at the faire, which
included: Zoe Alexander MacGregor, the Bard of Glen Lyon; those
good-looking, groupie-stealing Brobdingnagian Bards; the ferocious Owl
Morrison, who led a rocking rendition of Nonesuch that always had the crowd
dancing; sweet Siobhan, who recently made the transition from listener to
performer; the Tudor Tarts, who need no introduction; and of course, the
ever-talented Scott [what the hell is his last name?].
[Did I leave anyone out?]
The Castle In
Muskogee
-
May 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, 21. Located at 3400 Fern Mountain Rd.
Muskogee, OK. Phone 918-687-3625. The Castle is the farthest
both of the bards travel for a gig, and it's always worth it. The good
people in Muskogee always treat us like the stars we are--or at least, the
stars we would like to be. It's a tough trip to get there, but it's
always hard to leave. This
faire is quickly becoming our favorite. Pound
for pound, you will not find a faire with more fun per square foot.
If you can visit that faire without a Castletonian interacting with
you, you are invisible. It's as
close to the DFW metroplex as TRF, and the weather is much cooler than
Scarborough's, so we expect to see more and more of our Hawkwood friends
there in the future. And I
challenge you to find another major faire where the owner is willing to
dance a lilt with the cast! While
you are there, be sure to check out the Washing Wenches and kick up your
heels at the Maypole Dance, run by our good friend Will Somers, the best
jester in all the lands.
Northwest Renaissance
Festival
-
June 17, 18, 24, 25, July 1, 2, 8, 9, 15, 16, 22, 23. Located
6493 Hwy 291 Nine Miles Falls, WA. 18 Miles from Spokane. Phone
509-487-2041. As usual, Hawke will be flying
solo at this quaint little festival.
Hawkwood
Medieval Fantasy Faire
-
Aug. 26, 27, Sept. 2, 3, 9, 10, 16, 17, 23, 24, 30, Oct.
1. Located 20 miles North of Fort Worth on I-35W exit 70 at Hwy
114. Phone 817- 430-4102. Look for us once
again at the Baited Beaver Tavern. (They called it the Painted Badger,
but we like our name better.) Hopefully, the curvaceous, leather-clad
Diamond will take a break from serving the ale long enough to step dance
to our tunes again this year. While we're hoping, maybe all of those
pretty young groupies will tie themselves to that tree again . . . We
expect to see you there with 500 of your closest friends. (Stop by
Drake Steak, just outside the Baited Beaver, for the best faire
fare.)
Texas Renaissance
Festival
-
Sept. 30, Oct. 1, 7, 8, 14, 15, 21, 22, 28, 29, Nov. 4, 5, 11, 12.
Located 6 miles South of Plantersville, 6 miles North of
Magnolia, on 1774. Despite a long history of playing at TRF, the Bedlam Bards will not appear
at TRF 2000.
