Bedlam Bards
1998 Schedule
16th Annual North Texas
Irish Festival
-
March 6, 7, 8. Fair Park, Dallas, TX. Friday hours
1700-2300, Saturday hours 1200-2400, Sunday hours 1200-2100.
We will be playing at the Hawkwood
Booth. We had a great time. If you
were there, it was good to see you again; if you weren't there, sorry
we missed you.
Four Winds Renaissance
Faire
-
March 21, 22, 28, 29; April 4, 5, 11, 12, 18, 19.
Hours 10am - 7pm Rain or shine. Located on Vizcaya Ranch
in Troup, TX. 15 miles south of Tyler, TX. off Hwy 110. Phone
903-842-2932. The two of us met and first shared
a stage at FWRF; Cedric wrote Bring on the Faire (available
on Cedric's Overmode) in anticipation of this faire.
This faire may have been misnamed:
Eight-and-a-Half Gale Force Winds would have been more accurate. We
should have read the small print on the pavilion that said, "Doubles as
parasail." Still, we had a great time playign for the crowds and jamming
with the Conlys.
Benefit Concert for the Underhill
Players
-
April 17. 7 pm. McGillicuddy's Pub and Grill, 7th and Congress,
Austin, Texas. Phone 512-476-4764. This
concert, which will feature several other bands (including Clandestine),
benefits the Underhill Players, a group of really neat people who put on
feasts and faires with a flair for the dramatic. We play at 7 o'clock sharp
so we can head to FWRF to play the next morning.
Wow, it was great to play for Celtic music fans
instead of general faire goers. We sure wish we could have stuck around
to hear the other bands.
The Castle In
Muskogee
-
May 2, 3, 9, 10. Located at 3400 Fern Mountain Rd.
Muskogee, OK.
Phone 918-687-3625. We're looking forward to
playing this faire for the first time this year. Hawke may be flying
solo one of the two weekends. Oklahoma
has some of the most enthusiastic audiences we've ever seen--and some of
the hardest working staff people, too. Cedric had a great time playing
for the maypole--while weaving in and out among the dancers. One of
the pub sings featured a first-time-ever ensemble of the Bedlam Bards, Red
McWilliams, Russ Doden, and Tim Collier (of Ravens fame) performing a medley
of Wildwood Flower, Rising of the Moon, Wearing of the Green, and
I Wish They'd Do It Now. By the way, Hawke would like
to thank all those who kept him from languishing many years in a small room
in Oklahoma.
Northwest Renaissance
Festival
-
July 11, 12, 18, 19, 25, 26, Aug. 1, 2, 8, 9, 15,
16. Located 6493 Hwy 291 Nine Miles Falls, WA. 18 Miles from
Spokane. Phone 509-487-2041. Hawke
will be playing the first five weekends of this quaint little festival without
the aid of his sideki- ("ow, stop poking me with that bow, Cedric!")
AHEM, without the very able and much appreciated collaboration of
his partner in crime, Cedric the Fiddler.
The fairefolk in Washington love Hawke so much
that his hat was getting a little tight by the time he had to bid them farewell.
His car enjoyed being out of the Texas heat and among friends so much
that it refused to bring him back, and he was forced to ride home on
the back of a greyhound.
Hawkwood
Medieval Fantasy Faire
-
Aug. 15, 16, 22, 23, 29, 30, Sept. 5, 6, 12,
13, 19, 20, 26, 27. Located 20 miles North of Fort
Worth on I-35W exit 70 at Hwy 114. Phone 817- 430-4102.
This is the faire we originally teamed up at, so we
think of it as home. We've played it as long as it has been around,
and we're looking forward to another great run. You can catch us two
to three times a day in the Baited Beaver Tavern. (They called it the
Painted Badger last year, but who knows what they'll call it this year.)
This is the pub where anything goes; in fact, the Bards once
sang a dirty song and leered at the very lovely daughter of a very prominent
national politician (who was watching) on that very stage.
We're having such a great time here that they
had us arrested and threw us in the jail. Thank the gods Hawke can
dance, or we would still be in that cell. We also have been inducted
into the Clan M'Crack under the names Hawken and Bowen. Another
particularly memorable moment occurred when a cute lady fan decided to moon
us on every chorus of "The Dun Cow." Hurry out and see us! Bring
500 friends! (We might even get mooned again!)
Texas Renaissance
Festival
-
Oct. 3, 4, 10, 11, 17, 18, 24, 25, 31, Nov. 1,
7, 8, 14, 15. Located 6 miles South of
Plantersville, 6 miles North of Magnolia, on 1774.
This is the mother of all faires when it comes
to Texas. Hawke's played there for years, and the Bedlam Bards played
there in 1997. They have expressed interest in having us in the Sea
Devil Tavern, singing those bawdy songs you know and love. Lilly has
mentioned that she might drop by for some guest appearances. Come hoist
a pint with us, mateys! Arrrrrrrrrrrr!
